Have we any Great Public Squares?

Architect Robert Gatje gave a diverting talk at the National Building Museum on Thursday, walking his standing room only audience through the details of what makes a public square appealing and vibrant. It’s not just centuries of historic patina. It’s about “not letting space leak out.” I summarized in blunt fashion his talk over at the Washington Post‘s Arts Post blog, and raised the question: If we were to make in Washington, where should it go?
