More Wojnaworicz flap

I thought it impressive that the National Portrait Gallery’s head, Martin Sullivan, showed up at a New York Public Library discussion of the Smithsonian’s decision to censor video by David Wojnarowicz from the “Hide/Seek” exhibition. It’s smart P.R., but it also focuses the spotlight on Sullivan’s boss, Smithsonian Secretary G. Wayne Clough, who made the ultimate decision to pull the video and has continued to defend it as the museum world continues to isolate the Smithsonian. Some of these issues were addressed in my piece from New York, which ran in yesterday’s Post.
